2024 Dream Rally roars through Kelowna
The sixth Okanagan Dream Rally returned on Saturday with 250 supercars that were expected to roar through downtown Kelowna, West Kelowna, and Peachland.
The charity event, organized by the August Family Foundation, paired drivers of the hot cars with children and youth as co-pilots, as they cruised through the city streets. Over the previous five years, more than $3.3 million has been raised. This year, funds raised were going to the Ronald McDonald House BC & Yukon and the KGH Foundation.
The cars left downtown Kelowna’s Prospera Place parking lot at 10:30 a.m. Those who were interested in checking out the fun were able to view their departure along Water Street, as the cars headed through downtown Kelowna towards Highway 97.
From there, the route took drivers over the William R. Bennett bridge and into West Kelowna. One great spot spectators could view the cars was from the Westside Road overpass, looking down on Highway 97.
At about 11 a.m., the drivers made their way to Peachland, turning left off the highway at Beach Avenue and parading down Beach Ave to 13th Street. Spectators could view the fun from along Beach Avenue, or even from the water in Peachland.
Drivers then returned along Highway 97 back to Kelowna, where participants carried on to a private lunch up near the airport.
The event dated back to 2016, with the first Dream Rally raising $134,000 for the Central Okanagan Hospice Association. In 2022, it raised $1.7 million for the KGH Foundation and Ronald McDonald House B.C. and Yukon.
